App Facelift · Built on a design system

A better app without rewriting the code.

I go through your app, fix what slows users down, and build a design system for it. Engineering applies it to the code you already have, without rewriting components.

Starting point

Two situations when teams order a facelift.

  • Years of development

The app works, but every screen looks different.

Buttons, tables, and forms were added over the years. Users get lost, and engineering tunes each element again.

  • New library version

You're moving to a new version of your UI library.

You'll touch every screen anyway. It's a good time to make the look consistent and fix what slows people down.

What you get

Three things for users and engineering.

A design system for engineering

Colors, type, spacing, and density as tokens. WCAG AA contrast, and dark mode if you want it.

Key screens with every state

Including first launch, empty data, loading, errors, and missing permissions.

Files engineering can apply

A theme, default component settings, and a list of changes. In Figma, or directly in code.

Scope and price

Basic, full, or with dark mode.

BasicLook and components

Tokens, updated components, and a handoff to engineering.

FullBasic plus screens

Adds key screens with their states and the main table.

With dark mode2 modes

The full scope in light and dark mode.

PriceFrom €4,9003 to 4 weeks · exact price after I see the appBook a meeting

Included

  • Tokens and WCAG AA contrast
  • Updated components from your UI library
  • The design system on a password-protected link
  • A short weekly call
  • At least 3 rounds of changes

What affects the price

  • Number of screens
  • Custom components outside the library
  • Dark mode

If you need a UI kit license, you pay for it. I'll send a final quote once I've seen the app.

How it works

Three to four weeks.

Week 1

Map of the app

I map the screens, components, and states, working in my own branch of your repository.

Week 2

Design system on a link

I publish colors, type, density, and components on a password-protected link. Your team can see them and comment.

Weeks 3–4

Facelift and tuning

I apply the design system to the app and tune it, in dark mode too if it's in scope. At the end, I hand over the branch and a list of changes.

In practice

Two design systems I built.

For engineering and IT

Questions you'll ask.

Is this a visual redesign?

No. I build a design system that engineering uses to update the app. The new look follows from it.

Does it touch our code?

Only in my own branch of your repository. You decide what to merge and when.

Do we have to rewrite components?

No. I change the look and default settings of the components in the library you use. Custom components outside the library are priced separately.

Do we need Figma?

No. I work in Figma or directly in code with live documentation. We pick what fits how your team works.

Which libraries do you work with?

Most recently Vuetify 4 and a design system in plain CSS. We can discuss other libraries in the first meeting.

Do you use AI?

Yes. I have my own AI tools, framework, and process for it. AI speeds up mapping the app and turning it into code, but we decide on the look and UX together. My quote explains which files AI works with.

Why does it take 3 to 4 weeks?

My work doesn't fill that time. Most of it goes to feedback and approvals on your side.

What do you need from us?

Access to the app and to the repository or Figma, and answers to questions within 2 business days.

Who owns the result?

You do. The branch, the design system, and the files stay with you after the handover.

Where are you stuck?

Write to me. In a 30-minute call, I'll tell you whether I can help, without slides or a long proposal.
